Diana
Kempton, IIDA
– born in Phoenix, AZ, Diana grew up the daughter of a Dept. of the Army
civilian engineer. She attended
grades K – 4 at the Fort Huachuca, AZ accommodation schools, spending 5th
grade in public school in Sierra Vista, AZ.
Her father then accepted an overseas assignment and she spent grades 6
– 12 in West Berlin. Diana designed the school flag and emblem, and was
active in music, graduating as valedictorian of Berlin American HS, Class of
’72.
She
returned to Arizona to earn a BA in Decorative Arts from Arizona State
University (1976), then a BA in Music History (1985).
Diana owned an interior design studio for eleven years and was
principal oboist for the Scottsdale Symphony Orchestra during this time.
She is currently an Interior Designer/Showroom Manager for a
builder-oriented design center in the Phoenix area.
Diana has been a professional member of the International Interior
Design Association (IIDA) since 1984, and received IIDA’s Service Award,
having served as newsletter editor, chapter secretary and chairman of the
Historic Preservation Committee. She
is currently on the architectural committee of her homeowners’ association.
Diana became chairman of the AOSHS Architectural
Committee in 1999 and received the AOSHS award for Volunteer of the Year in
July 2001. She joined the board
that October. She and husband
Reed, an urban planner, are active photographers and cyclists, and Diana is on
the executive board of the Greater Arizona Bicycling Association. They are also members of the Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix Zoo,
Saguaro Camera Club, Boyce Thompson Arboretum, and National Building Museum.
